    American Wigeon / Mareca americana

: Non-breeding. on freshwater late May-Aug, mostly single, presumably unpaired males.

: on freshwater mid Mar-mid Apr when often in pairs, with to mid May and again late Oct-early Dec with to mid Oct. on inshore saltwater.

: Dec-Feb, both single and small groups mostly wintering with flocks of Mallards and American Black Ducks sustained with supplemental feeding, and mostly on saltwater

Miscellany: Adult males have a white forehead and crown which has led to the species' alternate and still widely used name, "Baldpate." The frequency and number of wintering individuals, including females, seems to have increased since 2020, perhaps in response to our warming winters.
