    Baird's Sandpiper / Calidris bairdii

Migrant: mid Aug-mid Sep, all juveniles with most records from Mount Desert Rock, where probably annual.

Miscellany: Almost all Baird's Sandpiper migrate through the central part of North America.

Baird's Sandpiper females make an astounding investment in egg production. Shortly after arriving in the Arctic, and with essentially no stored fat, she lays a clutch that is up to 120% of her body mass in just four days. How she manages this remains unstudied.
