    Black-crowned Night-Heron / Nycticorax nycticorax

    : early Apr-late May with to early Jun, and again late Aug-early Oct with to mid Oct. There are a scattering of records mid Jun-mid Aug but breeding has not been confirmed or even suspected; these birds are likely to be post breeding .

    Miscellany: In the 1930s and 1940s, Black-crowns nested in several places around MDI including the Porcupine Islands and Little Duck Island but those colonies disappeared around 1950 and the species has remained since then.
