    Black-legged Kittiwake / Rissa tridactyla

    : mid May to mid Aug, usually subadults loafing around nesting seabird colonies. No mainland records.

    : but mid Nov-Mar and from Schoodic Point with from mid Oct. Sometimes after easterly storms. and late Nov-Mar from the Park Loop road between Sand Beach and Otter Point, again more regular after easterly storms. Probably to late Oct to early Mar, but few data. No confirmed records from the upper parts of Frenchman and Blue Hill Bays.

    Miscellany: Most Black-legged Kittiwakes nest on cliff ledges, some of them less than five inches wide, where they incubate their eggs facing the cliff with their tails projecting over the abyss.
