    Blue Grosbeak / Passerina caerulea

    Wanderer: to mid Apr-early May with to late May/early Jun, and mid Sep-early Oct with outliers to late Oct. Spring birds usually appear at bird feeders while fall birds patronize weedy fields and borders. in winter: Northeast Harbor late 1979-Apr 20 1980, said to be an adult male.

    Miscellany: In April when strong southerly airflows can span much of the east coast, three species - Indigo Bunting, Summer Tanager and Blue Grosbeak - are well known for overflying their normal breeding range and scattering themselves north to the Canadian Maritimes. These birds are almost always young males undertaking their first migration north, distinguished as such by distinctive plumage elements.
