    Carolina Wren / Thryothorus ludovicianus

: May-Jul and to Aug-Apr, in towns as well as open deciduous and mixed woods and scrub. There are fall/ influxes in some years, most recently in 2022-23, when they often show up at bird feeders. There is one confirmed breeding record, Bar Harbor Jun 27, 2025, and more can be expect.

Miscellany: Historically a southerner, Carolina Wren has extended its range north in decades as our region has warmed, and now breeds reliably in southern Maine.

The classic rollicking Carolina Wren song is only uttered by males. The females have a variety of scolding, churring and tinking calls.
