: May-Jul and to Aug-Apr, in towns as well as open deciduous and mixed woods and scrub. There are fall/ Influxes in some years, most recently in 2022-23, when they often show up at bird feeders.
Miscellany: Historically a southerner, Carolina Wren has extended its range north in recent decades as our region has warmed, and now breeds reliably in southern Maine.There are at present no confirmed breeding records here, and most records are of single birds, but that seems likely to change soon; a pair in Seal Harbor Feb 10, 2023 seems poised.
The classic rollicking Carolina Wren song is only uttered by males. The females have a variety of scolding, churring and tinking calls.
