: late Aug-late Oct with from mid Aug and to early Nov, in weedy fields, gardens and places where migrants concentrate.

Miscellany: Clay-colored Sparrow is a northern Great Plains species which spread east in the 20th century. In years there have been several breeding attempts in southern Maine. We expect they're annual here in fall but finding them takes careful examination of the numerous Chipping Sparrow flocks with which they often associate.
