: Breeds. Jun-Jul on freshwater lakes and larger streams. Females with broods have been noted recently on Jordan Pond, Bubble Pond and Eagle Lake.

Miscellany: nesting status complicated due to confusion with female Red-breasted Merganser, the latter perhaps a breeder. On more than one occasion, the same female/brood has been reported as both species.
