    Eastern Whip-poor-will / Antrostomus vociferus

: from mid May in open deciduous and mixed woodlands where active only at night and detected when present almost exclusively by its characteristic song. No records of birds singing over an extended period of days.

: Probably but essentially undetectable when quiet late Apr-late May with from mid Apr, and probably early Sep-early Oct.

Miscellany: Within its range, Eastern Whip-poor-will is at once one of the best known birds thanks to its iconic call and least studied birds given its nocturnal habits, cryptic plumage, camouflaged eggs and young and large territory size.
