: to but inconspicuous in mature spruce/fir woods such as those found at Otter Point, Ship Harbor Trail and the outer Schoodic Peninsula.
Migrant: Hard to document due to the presence of resident birds but probably early-mid Apr and again late Sep-late Oct in most forest types and where migrants concentrate.
Miscellany: It's remarkable and as yet not fully understood how a bird as small as Golden-crowned Kinglet can survive Maine's long, cold, dark winters. There is some evidence they roost communally but they must as well be able to discover small, soft bodied over-wintering arthropods and/or their eggs in sufficient numbers to fuel their necessarily high metabolism.
