    Grasshopper Sparrow / Ammodramus savannarum

: Dec 1971 at a feeder in Bar Harbor, Jan 9-Apr 26, 1974 in Seal Harbor (see below), Oct 10, 1975 at a Salisbury Cove bird feeder, May 23, 1987 singing in the Norway Drive/Crooked Road fields, and Oct 3, 2006 on Mt Desert Rock.

Miscellany: The Jan 1974 Seal Harbor bird, mentioned above, was captured in a butterfly net as it emerged in a blizzard from a hole in a field just east of town. It overwintered in a nearby guest bedroom, meals provided, until April 26 when it was released and departed without thanks. Grasshopper Sparrow breeds in southern Maine so breeding here is possible. The Norway Drive/Crooked Road field complex referred to above is one of the few locations that could support even a single pair.
