Great Crested Flycatcher / Myarchus crinitus

: Breeds. to mid May-early Aug in open deciduous and mixed woods. Sieur du Mont Springs and the nearby Jessup Path are good places to look.

: from mid May with to mid Jun, and again mid Aug-early Sep with to late Sep. Migrants prefer deciduous and mixed woods and places where migrants concentrate. They are secretive and hard to detect unless vocal.

Miscellany: Great Crested Flycatcher is the only cavity nesting flycatcher in eastern North America, often using Northern Flicker holes. It's famous for sometimes adding a snakeskin to its nest - there's some evidence from Florida that it deters some predators - but they're also known to add birch bark fragments, candy wrappers and wrinkled bits of plastic.
