: early-late Apr and again late Oct-late Nov with to mid Dec, on freshwater ponds and marshes. on salt water, Schoodic Point Dec 2, 2023, but should occur there occasionally. Any scaup on fresh water is likely to be a Lesser.
Miscellany: Lesser Scaup status is uncertain due to similarity to the more common Greater Scaup. Most Lesser Scaup winter in states bordering the Gulf of Mexico and migrate through the interior of the country so even if each one here carried a bold name plate, they would be infrequently detected.
