    Lincoln's Sparrow / Melospiza lincolnii

    : Breeds. and late May-late Aug in open spruce bogs, The Big Heath (no formal access) has been the most consistent place although singing birds have been heard in suitable areas at the upper part of Northeast Creek and in scattered spots between Southwest Harbor and Bass Harbor.

    Migrant: mid-late May with from early May and to early Jun, and again early Sep-mid Oct with to early Dec. Prefers moist, brushy areas. Shy and often uncooperative.

    Miscellany: We're at the very southeastern edge of Lincoln's Sparrow's breeding range. John James Audubon named this bird in 1834 after Thomas Lincoln of Dennysville, ME.
