: in fresh and brackish ponds and marshes mid Apr-early Jun and again late Jul-early Oct.
Miscellany: Little Blue Heron is unique among herons in that it is almost entirely white for the first five to seven months save for dusky tips to the outer primaries, then mottled blue and white (sometimes called "Calico" heron) as adult-like feathers appear, and finally becoming all dark when about a year old. All of our records Jul-Nov have been white birds while those April-June have been dark.
