: . Since 1950, there are Long-eared Owl records from Feb (2), Mar, May and Oct from Bar Harbor, Seawall Campground, Eagle Lake and Northeast Creek.
Miscellany: Long-eared Owls nest and roost in dense vegetation and use the old nests of species like American Crow, Common Raven and various species of raptor. They forage at night over fields and marshes. Many of their vocalizations, given primarily during the breeding season, do not suggest an owl. Sounds coming from the Seal Harbor nest were thought for weeks to be coming from a Red Fox den. The species could be regular here yet pass almost completely undetected.
