Miscellany: Some may not recognize the name Long-tailed Duck. It used to be Oldsquaw but was changed by taxonomic authorities for cultural reasons in 2000. By whatever name, they are impressive divers having been documented to reach depths of almost 200 feet. They're also members of the very small club of birds known to breed at or beyond 80 N latitude.
