    Mourning Dove / Zenaida macroura

    : in open woodlands, towns and villages. In , congregates at bird feeding stations. Migrant status uncertain but it seems likely that some birds do as Mourning Doves have been seen at sea and at Mount Desert Rock with most records late Jul-early Oct.

    Miscellany: Mourning Dove is one of the relatively small number of bird species that nests in all 48 contiguous states. Their mournful spring song, heard widely, can commence as early as mid-Mar. Listen here.
