    Northern Parula / Setophaga Americana

    : Breeds. to mid May-mid Aug in mature spruce/fir especially in coastal White Spruce. Schoodic Point, Otter Point, the southeast shore of MDI from Seawall to Bass Harbor Head. Most of the spruce covered islands have good populations as well.

    : from early May with a peak in mid-late May and from late April and to mid June, and to early Sep-early Oct with a peak mid Sep and outliers from late Aug and to late Nov.

    : Dec 10-25, 1961 in Southwest Harbor.

    Miscellany: Northern Parulas often nest in tangles of Usnea lichen, known colloquially as ‘old man's beard,' which festoon spruces, especially those on or near the coast.
