    Northern Pintail / Anas acuta

: on freshwater mid Mar-early May with from late Feb, and again mid Oct-late Nov with outliers from late Aug and to early Dec.

: mid Dec-mid Feb, usually males but sometimes pairs. Seen on both fresh and saltwater usually in association with American Black Ducks or Mallards.

Miscellany: Northern Pintail females nest a long way from water, typically from one half to one mile and occasionally as much as two miles. The eggs (3-12) all hatch within 24 hours of each other, and after a day in the nest they make their way to water. That's a lot of steps for a duckling but a reasonable percentage must make it as Northern Pintail is one of the world's most abundant ducks.
