    Northern Shrike / Lanius borealis

    : to , depending on the year, in open country late Oct-mid Apr with from mid Oct and to late Apr. Usually seen perched on the top of small trees.

    Miscellany: Although hawk-like in their predatory nature and famous for impaling prey on thorns or barbed wire, shrikes are songbirds and on occasion can be heard uttering soft musical phrases full of trills and whistles.
