    Orchard Oriole / Icterus spurius

: early-mid May with from late Apr to early Jun. early Jul-early Oct with most records from Mount Desert Rock.

Miscellany: Orchard Oriole breeds north to southern Maine and is one of a small set of more southerly landbirds that occur in spring as presumed migratory ‘overshoots' of their normal breeding range. Spring records are mostly second year males; two females in Northeast Harbor May 15, 2026 was . Many of the spring birds end up at feeding stations. Jul-Oct birds, presumably mostly wandering young are difficult to detect being both dull yellow (both sexes), like a lot of fall birds, and skulking so they probably occur more often than the skimpy record would suggest.
