    Pine Grosbeak / Pinicola enucleator

    : late Oct-early Apr with from mid Oct and to late Apr. Present some years, occasionally in numbers, and not in others. Less frequent in the last decade. Mostly feeds on tree buds and seeds but also on retained tree and shrub fruits. Rarely visits bird feeders.

    : Aug 7, 1962 in Seal Harbor.

    Miscellany: Pine Grosbeak is a treasure. They're large for song birds, gently and unwary, and beautiful regardless of age or gender. In years when they're common, it almost impossible to be outside for more than a few minutes without hearing their mellow flight calls. Listen here.
