    Purple Finch / Haemorhous purpureus

    : Breeds. early Apr-early Sep in mature conifer and mixed woods, and in towns and villages.

    : late Mar-late Apr, with from early Mar, but in some years arriving as early as early/mid Feb. mid Sep-early Nov with a peak mid/late Oct and from late Aug to early Dec. Migrants are most easily detected in flight by their sharp ‘pink' call notes, given in flight and at rest. Listen here.

    : and mid Dec-late Feb, mostly at bird feeding stations.

    Miscellany: Purple Finch is one of the more conspicuous birds in the late spring and early summer thanks to the males' loud, musical warblings, sometimes given in flight. Listen here.
