    Purple Sandpiper / Calidris marítima

Migrants and : early Nov-late Apr on the outer coast and especially ledges, with from late Aug and to late May. in the upper bays. Occurs in scattered small flocks usually fewer than 20 birds but occasionally in the hundreds. Old Soaker off Sand Beach, the ledges around Seawall and Wonderland, and Schoodic Point are good places to look.

Miscellany: Purple Sandpipers, our only wintering sandpiper, are often difficult to detect as they creep around wave savaged rocks somehow avoiding annihilation.
