Occurs in scattered small flocks usually fewer than 20 birds but occasionally in the hundreds. Old Soaker off Sand Beach, the ledges around Seawall and Wonderland, and Schoodic Point are good places to look.
Miscellany: Purple Sandpipers, our only wintering sandpiper, are often difficult to detect as they creep around wave savaged rocks somehow avoiding annihilation.
