    Red-bellied Woodpecker / Melanerpes carolinus

    : late Aug-late May and early June-mid Aug. During peak dispersal periods, late Aug-early Oct and early May-early June, birds could show up anywhere including the . In the colder months they're usually tied to bird feeding stations.

    Miscellany: Red-bellieds were unrecorded here until the mid 1960s - the first Maine record was in Trenton, May 15, 1958 - but have slowly increased to the point they're now annual in very small numbers. Breeding hasn't yet been suspected but it seems a only a matter of time as they now breed in southern Maine.
