    Red-eyed Vireo / Vireo olivaceus

    : Breeds. mid May-late Aug in mature deciduous and mixed woods, the latter with a preponderance of deciduous trees.

    : mid May-early June and again early Sep-early Oct with peaks in late May and mid-late Sep, the latter primarily in places where migrants concentrate, and from late Aug and to mid Nov. Fall migrants feed primarily on fruits and berries.

    Miscellany: Red-eyed Vireos are one of the commonest breeding birds in the Northeast and while visually inconspicuous, their musical and often endlessly repetitive songs can be heard everywhere. Listen here. It's a classical Neotropical migrant with most of our Red-eyes wintering in the Amazon basin east of the Andes.
