: Breeds. mid May-late Aug in mature deciduous and mixed woods, the latter with a preponderance of deciduous trees.
Migration: in deciduous woods mid May-early June with a late May peak, and again early Sep-early Oct with a mid-late Sep peak and from late Aug and to early Nov. Fall migrants feed primarily on fruits and berries.
Miscellany: Red-eyed Vireos are one of the commonest breeding birds in the Northeast and while visually inconspicuous, their musical and often endlessly repetitive songs can be heard everywhere. Listen here. It's a classical Neotropical with most of our Red-eyes wintering in the Amazon basin east of the Andes.
