Migration: mid Apr-early June. to offshore late Jul-mid Oct with to early Dec. Species identification in fall at sea vexed unless birds are close as few observers can reliably separate distant Red from Red-necked Phalarope. Schoodic May 4, 2023 There are no fresh water records.
: Uncertain. There are late Dec/early Jan Gulf of Maine records of phalarope, presumably Reds, and if our waters continue to warm, there will likely be more sightings of this hardy species.
Miscellany: Red Phalaropes can spend as much as 11 months of the year at sea.
