Miscellany: Loons and grebes encountering powerful stormy weather while migrating will land on lakes and ponds to ride out the storm. Very occasionally these ‘lakes and ponds' reveal themselves too late as merely wet parking lots or roads. Such birds can't take off and perish unless rescued and successfully relocated by charitable humans.
