    Redhead / Aythya Americana

: Mar 16, 1993 near Bar Harbor and Oct 27, 2014 in Witch Hole Pond.

Miscellany: Redhead's breeding range, like Canvasback, is largely in the northwestern half of the U.S. and adjacent Canada with migration routes that bypass eastern Maine. Limited breeding in extreme northern Maine and the Maritimes is thought to have stemmed from a release of hand reared birds. Female Redheads have uniquely varied egg laying strategies. She can lay and incubate her own clutch, lay eggs in another duck's nest before laying her own clutch, or lay all her eggs in other ducks' nests.
