Miscellany: Sanderlings like long sandy beaches of which we have almost none although they will feed on intertidal mussel beds and rocky ledges. Until the late 1970s, upwards of 100 would gather on the Bar Harbor Bar late Jul to mid Aug along with dozens of other shorebirds and gulls, but the bar no longer attracts shorebirds (see Ruddy Turnstone).
