    Spotted Sandpiper / Actitis macularius

: Breeds. mid May-late Jul along sheltered saltwater, including many islands, and on lakes, ponds and larger streams.

: from early May with from mid Apr and to mid Jun, and again late Jul-late Sep with to early Nov.

Miscellany: Unlike most of their sandpiper cousins, Spotted Sandpipers usually occur singly even at the height of migration. Spotted Sandpiper females can have as many as five mates, each incubating one of her clutches and then caring for the offspring. Since females have no responsibilities after their last clutch is laid, they can and do leave for their winter quarters sometime arriving as early as mid Jul having spent only a bit more than a month on their breeding grounds.
