    Spruce Grouse / Falcipennis canadensis

: , and infrequently seen in moist spruce/fir woodlands with most records from Schoodic Point, and the Great Heath where one was a Jun 23, 2020 roadkill near Wonderland Trail.

Miscellany: MDI Spruce Grouse are enigmatic. There are no records from 1950 to the late 1970s. In the early 1980s to late 1990s, the species appeared regularly on the Wonderland Trail. Since about 2000 Spruce Grouse reports have again become rare but there are enough records including specimens to know that the species is still present. Most records are of females with young.

Spruce Grouse males don't drum like Ruffed Grouse but rather flutter noisily from a low branch to the ground and then back up to the branch again.
