    Summer Tanager / Piranga rubra

    : late Apr-early Jun with from early Apr, mostly in towns at feeders and flowering fruit trees. in fall Sep 9, 1969 in Salisbury Cove and Sep 26, 2014 on Great Duck Island. All records of single birds except two in Bar Harbor, June 2, 2023.

    Miscellany: Summer Tanager is one of the small group of southerly landbirds that occur here in spring as presumed migratory ‘overshoots' of their normal breeding range. Almost all spring records to date are of young males which display a variable mix of red and yellow feathers.
