Miscellany: Swainson's Hawk nests and migrates mostly in and through the western half of North America, and almost all of them undertake a more than 6000 mile one way migration, as measured from the center of their breeding range in the northern prairies, to the center of their wintering grounds in southern South America. Maine has very few records.
