    Tufted Puffin / Fratercula cirrhata

Wanderer: Jun 22-23, 2022 and again Jun 7 and Jul 31, 2023 on Petit Manan Island

Miscellany: Tufted Puffin is a north Pacific seabird which, remarkably, has occurred in Maine twice before, in 1832 at the mouth of the Kennebec River (the record ascribed to J.J. Audubon himself) and Jun 17-Jul 23, 2014 on Machias Seal Island (claimed by both the U.S. and Canada). Not much is known about how long Tufted Puffins live but their smaller cousin, the Atlantic Puffin, can live for 30 years. There's a reasonable chance the 2014 and 2022/2023 records are of the same individual.
