    Vermilion Flycatcher / Pyrocephalus rubinus

Wanderer: May 9, 1984 on Isle au Haut

Miscellany: Vermilion Flycatcher is, as the name suggests, a spectacular bird with a breeding range from the American southwest south to southern South America. It wanders very rarely to the Northeast and there is only one other Maine record, a bird that was first detected Apr 17, 2017 by a German national (in Germany!) on a live video feed from a camera set up to monitor an Osprey nest on Hog Island in inner Muscongus Bay.
