: early-late May with from late Apr and to early Jun, and late Sep-mid Oct with from mid Sep and to mid Nov. Favors open ground including scrubby fields, road edges, and back yards with easy access to cover. In spring especially, sometimes seen on lawns.

Miscellany: Unlike many sparrows, White-crowns do not appear to migrate in cohesive flocks. It's rare to see more than five birds together.
