Migration: early-late May with from mid Apr and to mid Jun, and late Sep-mid Oct with from mid Sep and to mid Nov. Favors open ground including scrubby fields, road edges, and back yards with easy access to cover. In spring especially, sometimes seen on lawns.

Miscellany: The moderately distinctive western race of White-crown, gambelli, has been recorded once; Bar Harbor May 4, 2026. Unlike many sparrows, White-crowns do not appear to migrate in cohesive flocks. It's to see more than five birds together.
