Miscellaneous: White-rumps have one of the longest migrations of any North American bird, from the Canadian Arctic to southmost South America, and incorporate within this journey long non-stop flights, some of which can last more than two days. The near absence of spring records is due to the species' northbound route, largely through the center of North America where they refuel before the long non-stop flight to their high arctic breeding grounds.
