Miscellany: Wilson's Storm-Petrel is thought to be one of the commonest and most widely distributed seabirds in the world, dispersing in the Austral winter from their Southern (Antarctic) Ocean breeding islands to all the world's oceans except the North Pacific. Its numbers here vary hugely depending on food availability; there have been summers with thousands around the Bumps and Mount Desert Rock and others when there were very few.
