Welcome to MDI Birds

This website covers the birds of Mount Desert Island and Acadia National Park, including Schoodic and Isle au Haut as well as all islands whose normal access is from a Mount Desert Island port.  We include information on bird distribution and abundance since 1950, with a specific focus on the last 10 years.  At the end of many species accounts, we add brief notes on some aspect of their lives we find interesting. We encourage semi-literate internet users to begin by reading How To Use This Website. Those interested in how the data was gathered can look here.
